2025-2026 Federal Program Overview

Federal Programs
The mission of the Piqua City School's federal programs initiatives is to obtain, provide oversight, and use federal funds in a completely student-centered approach.  Federal funding supports unique educational opportunities for all students and staff.
Piqua City Schools will apply for federal funding in the 2025-2026 school year.  The use of funds is focused on the goals of the district's One Plan:

  1. Increase attendance each year until total district chronic absences are below 10%. 
    1. Strategy: Use PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) in all buildings
    2. Strategy: Engage students in Success Bound courses and experiences that increase attendance, including career skills, STEM, art, and music. 
  1. Increase student achievement on state language arts assessments so that all students are proficient.
    1. Strategy: Utilize the Science of Reading, High-Quality Instructional Materials, and Academic Coaching to provide highly effective instruction to all students. 
  2. Increase student achievement on state math assessments so that all students are proficient. 
    1. Strategy: Utilize High-Quality Instructional Materials and Academic Coaching to provide highly effective instruction to all students. 

The funds are utilized to provide programming and services for students in the Piqua City School District. These funds include:

Title I:  Focused on the academic needs of low-achieving and low-income students. Piqua City Schools welcomes family and community input into its Title I programs.  Please feel free to provide input using this 2025-2026 Piqua City Schools Title I Family and Community Survey.

Title I- Noncompetitive:  Focused on providing services for students in literacy

Title II:  Improving teacher instruction and professional development

Title III:  Providing Language instruction for students with limited English proficiency

Title IV:  Providing enrichment activities for all students

Expanding Opportunities:  Increasing access to STEM and Career-Based opportunities

IDEA:  Services for Students with Disabilities

IDEA Early Childhood:  Providing services for Pre-K students with Identified needs

Stronger Connections:  Providing increased access to physical fitness

Piqua City Schools welcomes input from participants and parents regarding the usage of these funds.  There is a Federal  Programs public meeting scheduled for March 11, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the Piqua Board of Education.  Anyone is welcome to attend to learn about federal programs and provide input on their use.

The IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) allocation for the 2025-2026 school year has been set at $895,180.  These funds are used to provide instructional and related services for students with disabilities.  

Piqua City Schools makes an ongoing effort to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, ranging from birth to age twenty-one.  In cooperation with other Ohio school districts, private institutions, and other agencies, Piqua City Schools will continue to implement its Child Find services.  If you are aware of a child with a disability who may not be receiving educational and/or related services for their condition, please contact :

Intended Uses of Federal Grants:

 

Title I:

  • Staffing for literacy growth at Springcreek, Washington, and Piqua Central

Title I-Non-Competitive Supplemental School Improvement:
  • Literacy coaching for Springcreek Primary

Title II-A:

  • Professional Development and Coaching for Educators

Title III-LEP:

  • Piqua City works with the Montgomery County ESC to provide training for ESL instructors

Title IV-A:

  • STEM Materials

  • Health and Fitness opportunities

  • Student enrichments

IDEA-B:

  • Providing services to students with disabilities

Early Childhood:

  • These funds are used to enter a consortium with the Miami County ESC to provide preschool services.

Expanding Opportunities:

  • Expanded Opportunities for digital media arts at Piqua High School and Piqua Junior High School
